What is woodp?

Well, today it’s a nickname. 20 or so years ago my employer rolled out this new thing called email. Compared to today’s system, this system (known as PROFS IBMMAIL) was downright archaic. One of its features (er, limitations) was that email addresses were limited to eight letter and number characters.

Convention was that email addresses were your first initial followed by the first seven letters of your last name. Someone higher than me in the company pecking order named Patricia Wood got PWOOD. I was offered PWOOD2 or WOODP. I chose WOODP.

Ten years later when the Internet took off, I invested $35 to register woodp.com. Except for some DDoS attacks and way too much SPAM, the domain has been good to me. That’s not to say that if someone comes along and offers seven digits for the domain, I’ll won’t let it go.

But until then, welcome to woodp.com.
